SOMETHING TO SING ABOUT (THIS LAND OF OURS)
Written by Oscar Brand in 1963
Performed by The Travellers

Oscar Brand

  • Oscar Brand was born on Lusted Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
  • The pre-eminent folk music authority in North America.
  • Has been on the radio in New York for over 60 years
  • Appeared on stages with the likes of Bob Dylan and Harry Belafonte
  • Recorded some 70 albums
  • Hosted "Let's Sing Out"
  • Wrote Something To Sing About (This Land of Ours)
  • And best of all ... Oscar the Grouch is named for him!  He was a member of the original Children's Television Workshop when they created Sesame Street and they named the grouchy character after him because he was so fastidious at meetings that he ticked people off.  What a proud fact for Manitobans!
