BUTTONS & PINS

Prior to the nineteenth century, relatively expensive metal and enamel pins existed and were used primarily for political or military or commemorative purposes. It wasn't until the late 1800s that modern day button badges first appeared.

Promotional merchandise in the form of buttons and pins for entertainers and bands began in the 1940s, but didn't really take off until the 1970s. Many have now become much sought after collector's items.
