H. H. EDWARD (TED) HICKS
April 9, 1931 - August 26, 2016
It is with heavy hearts that our family
announces the sudden but peaceful passing
of our father H. H. Edward (Ted) Hicks on
Friday, August 26, 2016 at Extendicare
Oakview Place Personal Care Home in
Winnipeg, at the age of 85 years. He had
been struggling with some health issues
over the past few years, but his condition
quickly deteriorated this past week.
Ted will be deeply missed by his three
children, Joseph (Krista) Hicks, Jennifer
Hicks Duseigne and Jewel (Anier) Kamfoly;
five grandchildren, Ashley and Dustin
Hicks, Nicole Duseigne, Taylor and Tori
Kamfoly; four great-grandchildren,
Charlie, Robyn and Andrew Hicks (Dustin)
and Ryder Hicks (Ashley); as well as many
nieces, nephews and close friends. He was
predeceased by his parents, Oscar and Ada
(Gladys) Hicks and brothers, Robert,
Charles and Reginald. He is now reunited
with the love of his life, our mother
Patricia, who passed away in 2001.
Dad was born on April 9, 1931 and grew up
in Inwood, Manitoba. He was a gifted
musician who taught himself how to play
the accordion when he was nine years old.
He started out by playing at many
community dances and then began teaching
in Teulon, Arborg and surrounding areas.
After getting married and moving to
Winnipeg, he went on to own his music
studio in Transcona. Dad was a passionate
performer playing music for weddings,
anniversaries, local legions, the Festival
du Voyageur, personal care homes, and many
parties, galas, and private functions. He
played as a soloist, strolling duo, and
with many bands and local musicians
throughout his lifetime. He played music
of every ethnicity, but had a passion for
Italian music.
In his later career, Dad enjoyed
performing as a strolling duo with
longtime friend and fellow musician,
Ferrucio Moscarda. He enjoyed the
camaraderie it created and the many
lifelong friendships he made along the
way. Whenever Dad played his accordion, be
it for the public or simply for his own
enjoyment, it gave him tremendous joy and
an indescribable sense of inner peace and
contentment.
He also worked for the provincial
government as a driver examiner for 18
years until his retirement in 1993. He
loved his family very much and did
everything he could for us. We love you
Dad, and words cannot express how much we
will miss you.
In compliance with Ted's wishes, a private
family Interment will be held. Thank you
to all the staff at Oakview Place Personal
Care Home for taking good care of our
father during his brief stay.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made
to the Children's Wish Foundation, 350 St.
Mary Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3J2.
