Harry Levine
HARRY LEVINE

September 22, 1924 - July 18, 2013

Harry Levine passed away suddenly at home on July 18, 2013 at the age of 88.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Ricki Jacobson (Gary) and Kathy Levine (Rick Green), and his grandsons, Dan Adams-Jacobson (Stephanie) and Noah Jacobson (Kristin Szuminsky), as well as his sister, Marjorie Levine. He was predeceased by his parents, Leah and Israel Levine, and his brother, Joseph Levine.

Harry was born on September 22, 1924 in Winnipeg, where he lived most of his life. He showed an early aptitude for music, and playing piano became his lifelong passion and livelihood. He started playing piano professionally in the late 1940s with a variety of orchestras at dance halls and hotels in Winnipeg. He had his own band at the dance hall at Winnipeg Beach in the late 1940s/early 1950s. He played at many popular venues in the city throughout the years, including the Hollow Mug dinner theater, where he worked until his retirement.

In recent years, he entertained at a variety of retirement residences in the summer months and continued to play at home, which was a source of delight to many of his neighbours.

His funeral took place at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery on July 21, 2013. Thanks to Cantor Tracy Kasner Greaves for a beautiful eulogy and service. If desired, donations in Harry's memory can be made to a charity of one's choice.

As published in Winnipeg Free Press on September 07, 2013
