RONALD RAYMOND MASON  (RON RENÉ)

November 28, 1947 - August 20, 2007

With heavy hearts we say goodbye to Ron. He was born in Winnipeg on November 28, 1947 and passed away suddenly on August 20,2007 in New Westminister, BC. He was a loving husband survived by Wendy and a devoted father to Dawn and Donovan and loving grandfather to Kalan, Mitchel, Emma, Cole. He loved all of his family and many friends.

Some knew him as Ron René from his musical career. He was well loved and respected by too many to mention.

His service will be held at Burkeview Chapel, 1340 Dominion Ave. at 2:00 p.m on August 31st.  In lieu of flowers donations to The United Way in Ron's honor.

Goodbye my love of life until we meet again.

RON RENÉ

As the dynamic lead vocalist for the Quid and later the Fifth, Rene was a god among men, king of the community clubs, idolized by none other than Burton Cummings who once boasted he would pay $1000 to hear Rene sing again. Immortalized in Cummings’ line “Fade away like Ron Rene,” the singer was a riveting performer with a set of pipes the envy of all others on the scene. He later joined legendary Minneapolis garage band The Litter before heading west.

Returning to Winnipeg for the Shakin’ All Over reunion in 1987, Rene stunned everyone with a voice that had lost none of its power.
