RICHARD
“DASH” TRANN
January 23, 1953 - May 2, 2024
It is with heavy hearts we announce the
passing of Richard Trann or as many knew
him in the rock and roll world, Dash. He
will be lovingly missed by his daughters,
Jennifer, Jessica (Oliver), Emily, &
Kate; his ex-wife Roberta; his sister,
Rosemary (Morley); his grandchildren,
Jasmine, Adam, & Luna; his niece,
nephews, and friends. He was predeceased
by his parents, Al and Beatrix; sister
Maureen; brother-in-law Don; and
granddaughter Sarah.
Richard lived with Parkinson’s for many
years and died peacefully on the morning
of May 2nd at Deer Lodge Centre. Our
family is forever grateful for the care he
received there and friendships he formed.
Although his life started and ended in
Winnipeg, he always called the West Coast
his home. He loved the ocean, canoeing,
camping, and spending time in nature. He
loved dogs, especially the ones he
incorporated into his family over the
years. Richard loved music and was a great
drummer who played throughout his life,
his most well-known band being ‘Dash and
the Dots’.
Richard loved helping people in need and
spent a lot of his life advocating for at
risk youth and adults. In Vancouver, he
worked with Street Youth Services in
various roles of outreach throughout the
years. He was involved with the
publication of ‘The Slice’ which was
completely written, illustrated, and put
together by street kids. In Squamish, he
worked at the youth center and with the
needle exchange. Richard had the gift of
the gab and was also a rocking salesman.
Richard was a big supporter of the arts
and loved an opportunity to be on stage.
He was an extra in tv shows and movies.
When asked, he would take to the stage for
his daughter’s dance recitals and played
an incredible Frank-N-Furter in a Squamish
production of The Rocky Horror Picture
Show.
Above all else Richard loved his family.
He adored his daughters and grandchildren.
Over his life he made several trips over
to England and Northern Ireland to see his
family there.
Richard lived a full life and wasn’t only
a good storyteller, he had more of them to
tell than most. He had a great smile and
laugh; he loved being different and
provocative and enjoyed a good debate. He
was nonjudgmental, kind and always looking
for a good time.
One of his favorite quotes was, “I wasn’t
looking too good, but I was feeling real
well,” by The Rolling Stones. His
home computer screen saver read ‘Question
Authority’ in big bold letters.
