WONDERFUL WINNIPEG

Leon Naleway

Leon Naleway
January 13, 1903 - October 31, 1982

Composer of Wonderful Winnipeg, the theme from Guy Maddin's movie "My Winnipeg".

Leon Naleway is also known in Winnipeg as the founder of Naleway Foods.  The company was established in 1945 initially as a restaurant, later expanding into catering, and is now (as of 2024) the second largest processor of perogies and panzerottis in Canada.

Leon's grandson, Rob Naleway, became involved in the catering side of the business, establishing the retail outlet Perogy Planet as a new venture in the Naleway group.
