Graduate of the Royal
Conservatory of Music (Toronto), pianist
and composer Robbie McDougall gained
international recognition in 1972 with his
chart-topping composition titled "The
Theme", for which he received a Broadcast
Music Industry Award (1973).
The RCA recording artist has shared the
stage with Lorne Greene, Henry Mancini,
Sonny and Cher, Jose Feliciano, Guess Who,
Dionne Warwick, Lighthouse, Randy Bachman,
Grass Roots, Ocean & many
others. He was the leader of song
and music for the Manitoba visit of Mother
Teresa of Calcutta, as well as having
performed for Queen Elizabeth, Prime
Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau, and the
Premiers of Canada.
Robbie was awarded the Yamaha Music Inc.
Appreciation Award for his contribution to
the Canadian Music Industry, and invited
by the Jesuit Fathers at St. Paul's
College, University of Manitoba as
composer in residence (1976-77).
In 1975, Robbie founded the publishing
company, Adoramus Ministries. He
created a ten-part musical mass - A
Celebration of Hope and Joy - scored for
orchestra and voice, calling it "one of
the most personally satisfying pieces of
music I've ever written". Released
on the Adoramus label, the mass was
granted apostolic benediction by Pope Paul
VI.
Robbie was ordained in 1985 as an
incardinated priest in the Archdiocese of
St. Boniface and is a bilingual
retreat/workshop facilitator. Father
Robbie McDougall holds a Bachelors and
Masters degree in Theology (Laval
University, Québec City), is certified in
Sacred Music and Liturgy (St. Joseph's
College, Indiana), holds a Certificate in
Clinical Pastoral Education (University of
Winnipeg), a Management by Responsibility
Certificate (Training Systems Inc.) and a
Certificate in Facilitation in Adult
Learning, (from Margaret Denis PhD and
Associates, Huntsville, Ontario.)
Father McDougall's ministries include
Parish Ministry, Rehabilitation Centers,
Pastoral Work, Hospital Chaplaincy, Music
Teacher, Grief Counseling/Sessions and
Workshops, Geriatrics Pastoral Care,
Retreats, Workshops, Music Recording,
Engineering and producing Cassettes and
CDs.
Following the death of his brother, Gerald
"Jay" McDougall in 1987, Robbie and the
McDougall family created the Gerald
McDougall Memorial Foundation "to
give financial and supportive assistance
to men and women presently in the faculty
of Theological Study, Pastoral Care
Program or Religious Education".
