MELVIN
SPALLER
February 9, 1951 ~ December 21, 2023
With great sadness the family announces
the passing of Melvin Spaller at the age
of 72.
He passed away on December 21, 2023 at the
Athabasca Hospital.
Mel was born February 9,1951 in Lake
Audey, Manitoba. He lived on the family
farm and attended school there. He
graduated from Erickson Collegiate. From
there he went to Winnipeg to pursue a
career in music which was successful with
his band 'Flying Tiger’. He then moved to
Fort McMurray and took his power
engineering. This led to working with
Syncrude for 37 years as a process
operator.
Mel enjoyed the outdoors so much he bought
a lake lot at Baptiste Lake. There he met
Katalina and together they enjoyed 20
years together. When Mel retired he took
time to enjoy all his family, friends and
nature.Whenever someone asked him how he
was his response was always" Chipper
Chipper Chipper"
Mel is survived by his loving partner
Katalina. His daughter Melanie (Andrew)
Step son Skylar (Krista), Stepdaughter
Amber (Brad), Grandchildren Ander’s,
Pepper, Emma, Logan, Luca, Olive, Gracie
and Alex.
He is survived by brother John (Sonya) of
Horde MB, his sisters Vera (Larry) of
Stoney Plain AB and Gail Bevan of
Edmonton, AB as well as numerous nieces
and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Rose and
Milton Spaller and his brother Jim Spaller
all of MB.
Thank you to Doctor Ryan Shaub from
Athabasca Hospital and the Palliative Care
Team, and all the staff in acute care.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a
later date. Interment will be in Horde,
Manitoba.
